Reflect
Reflect, a 2020 wall piece from the Notes on Self series, is a meditation on physical presence and the singular, shifting space the body occupies. Constructed from two panels of mirrored gold vinyl (66 ½” x 36” x 2 ½” overall), the work is precisely scaled to the artist’s standing height. Suspended only by two steel clips, the material’s inherent tensile response and the force of gravity cause the original rectangle to dramatically change shape. The vinyl curls inward, forming a V or cone with the bottom corners nearly touching the wall. This material dynamism constantly reconfigures the work while its mirrored surface captures and returns the image of the viewer—or two viewers simultaneously. Reflect compels a direct engagement with one’s own mutable, temporary spatial boundary, using the human body as an active measure.
