“Parts 2” is a compelling plaster cast from the DNA Series, crafted from a pair of a woman’s feet encased in white plaster-saturated gauze strips. The position of the feet—cast while the model was lying on her side—emphasizes vulnerability and stillness. The residual “wound pattern” left by the gauze on the exterior shell serves as a direct commentary on the painful practice of foot-binding in early Chinese culture, exploring how a status symbol could simultaneously confine and “hobble” women.
