Installed in response to the architectural site, Filer’s was first designed to penetrate the space between the rafters of Zephyr Gallery, Louisville, KY.
Standing over ten feet tall, these brass columns reference the chromosomal lanes used to organize genetic markers in DNA research, functioning as a physical manifestation of filtering for information. The chosen silk, sewn into long sleeves that fit loosely over the metal frames, creates a glistening yet soft translucence. This “doubling” allows light to penetrate the forms while simultaneously obscuring visibility. Every stitch of the gold silk thread was executed by hand, intentionally introducing human irregularity into the geometric structure.
