Co-existence, 2018, is a key sculpture within the Notes on Self series that explicitly addresses the concepts of duplication, lineage, and the inherent tension between autonomy and connection across generations. The work is physically manifested as a chromosome pair, meticulously scaled to twice my standing height. This scale connects the abstract biological idea of genetic inheritance—where distinct genetic coding from each parent recombines—to the human experience. Constructed from perforated polyester and monofilament, the piece is designed for site-responsive installation, extending from the ceiling to the floor. As a single chromosome-like pair doubles and stretches upward, it serves as a physical meditation on the fundamental concept of ‘co-existence’ that is foundational to both cellular life and human relationship. The pairing of forms is a consistent motif in my work, directly extending my earlier investigations into chromosome pairs.
