Double Torso, 1992, expands upon earlier singular plaster body casts which captured the body’s essence as a delicate, floating vessel. 

Cast from the front of a live female model using plaster gauze, the resulting forms are like fragile white eggshells with cracked edges. The interior surface holds the intimate replica of the skin, while the exterior, wound in layers of gauze, acts as a shroud, with stray strings visible like lines of a drawing. 

Presented as doubles with open backs, the work transforms the torsos into floating shields and explores the body as a momentary, dual entity—a theme further emphasized by the creation of two mirroring forms as a reference to chromosome pairs.
