Though created in 2010, “Electroglide” stands as a pivotal piece in the DNA Series, formally referencing the scale and structure of genetic gel slides. The work retains the signature delineated lanes and nearly transparent stains that signify genetic material under analysis. However, it marks a material and conceptual transition. The introduction of blue polysilk functions as a new light filter, projecting and duplicating shadows onto the masonite backing. This carefully calibrated optical effect establishes a visual tension: a dialogue between the layered top fabric and the subtle marks below. This shift from scientific data toward the phenomenology of light and illusion primes the eye for the forthcoming Identity and Notes on Self Series, emphasizing material presence and visual duality over objective analysis.
