Installed  in response to the architectural site, “Purifier” was first designed to fill the 2nd floor middle main exhibition space of Zephyr Gallery, Louisville, KY. 

Standing nearly nine feet tall, these silver painted steel uprights reference the chromosomal lanes used to organize genetic markers in DNA research, functioning as a physical manifestation of filtering  for information selection. The chosen silver silk, sewn into long sleeves that fit loosely over the metal frames, creates a glistening yet soft translucence. This “doubling” allows light to penetrate the forms while simultaneously obscuring visibility. Stitching of the silver silk thread was executed by hand, intentionally introducing human irregularity into the geometric structure.  The discovery of a small, dried silkworm, intentionally left intact and embalmed within the geometric weave, introduces a singular instance of biological materiality into the system of the artwork.
